This project redefines the requirements for a detached house in Benirredrà.
The layout of the house on a corner has been taken advantage of to allow light to enter from the street. However, as it is located on a busy pedestrian thoroughfare, conventional housing standards have been redefined to provide lighting and privacy in the living areas.
For this reason, the living area has been located on the first floor of the building, gaining in lighting, views, and privacy, and creating interior terraces on this same floor, covered with mobile awning systems. This courtyard house essentially has two distinct volumes: one that houses the main living area with a large living space and three en-suite bedrooms. On the north side, there is a small studio apartment, capable of accommodating a couple, in a compact housing solution.
Structurally, a new roof slab has been designed for the main volume of the building, as the original was in a very advanced state of deterioration. A conventional load-bearing structure was sought, but one that also represented the traditional spirit of the building type, with wooden joists and ceramic tiles.
Aesthetically, the interior has been designed to be refined and polished, but with traditional materials that give the home a unique Mediterranean character. Small-format ceramics and lots of exposed oak wood have been used to highlight the different structural elements of the buildings, with ceramic and wooden floors sharing the limelight with the rich spatial design. In addition, metal elements such as staircases have been designed to connect the two floors in a light manner, as if they were sculptures.
The new interior terraces allow the patio to be enjoyed in comfort from the living areas. In terms of materials, the two are contrasted with a glass terrace that allows light to enter the ground floors and a concrete terrace that provides sheltered access to the ground floor.
This home has been equipped with a powerful, energy-efficient air conditioning system with underfloor heating, aerothermal cooling fan coils, and forced ventilation, which, together with the exterior PVC carpentry, make it a cutting-edge home in terms of energy efficiency.
A home far from conventionality to enjoy with the family.
